This won’t be a vague breakdown, so if you want to experience the twists and turns that Outlast 2 has to offer for yourself, we suggest turning back right now. This should go without saying, but we must warn you that we will be spoiling the entire story ahead. It can be a lot to take in and a bit confusing, but don’t worry, we’re here to break the story down for you. It turns out that while the setting and antagonists are quite different from what fans may remember from the first game, the two games are still connected on a deep level. While the cult theme is at the top layer of Outlast 2’s story, there’s actually a lot more going on beneath the surface. Behind the gruesome acts you’ll bear witness to are humans who genuinely believe they are doing the lord’s work.

However, unlike many horror games, the frightening happenings aren’t being done by monsters, at least not in the literal sense.
#OUTLAST 2 HERETICS FULL#
If you’ve played the first game, then you already know that the experience revolves around the player being unable to defend themselves as they explore an area full of horrors and nightmarish events. When it comes down to your faith, your relationship with God is your own, and if something is coming in between that, then it's up to you to reflect and perhaps make a change.īut honestly, I think you're worried about nothing.Outlast 2 is not a game for the faint of heart. To address OP, not exactly certain what you are conflicted on, but as a Christian myself, I think the most important thing with video games is to not take anything too literal or personal (separating fact from fiction, as others have stated). OP asked a simple question to start a dialog and most of the responses have been quite negative. Pretty disappointed in the responses by the community here. Also I tried looking at other topics about this and found none, so please leave feedback! I don't know if I'm just worrying about nothing, but I am curious to see what other Christian players think about this.

I mean, he is from a religious factions who worships a transference fracture of a Tenno because he "protects them" and what not.
#OUTLAST 2 HERETICS UPDATE#
However, the new update with Harrow kinda worries me. OK so I've been playing this game for about 2 years now with no real worries about it. Any objectionable aspect is entirely due to a person's own interpretation of perceived symbolism.įinally I'll add that I am happily a heretic and my knowledge of religions in general is superficial at best. So final thought about Harrow in particular is that he has no DIRECT connection to any concept or theme UNIQUE to Christianity as far as I can see. I haven't heard of anyone having objections about them. Innaros is directly connected to mummies and pharaos who were worshiped as living gods way back when. Atlas by name and some part of core concept is connected to a major figure in ancient Hellenistic mythos. I mean, Nekros has some serious edgecase hinting of the personification of Death going on. I'd also like to add that when you squint and try enough, you'll probably see connections to deities or aspects of concept entities of other faiths. First connection I make when seeing the visual design is ancient Egypt.

Be it from the core belief or from an established cult of said faith. Every single faith mythos from around the globe that I know of has parts about self-sacrifice and penance. Though I have to admit that some parts of the entire theme of Harrow is built around religious hints, but that is not tied to ANY religion in particular. Some see connections in places that aren't there or don't see some that are. It's all stuck in an individuals personal view of.
